Refreshing Scallion Salad (Pa MuChim: 파무침) For Korean BBQ & Lettuce Wrap (SangChu Ssam: 상추쌈)

Scallion side salad called Pa MuChim (파무침) is commonly served with Korean BBQ. It is typically enjoyed as part of the Korean Lettuce Wrap (SangChu Ssam 상추쌈) which typically includes a spoonful of rice, piece of your BBQ/grilled meat, Pa MuChim, and Ssam Jang (Korean condiment that consists of soybean paste, red pepper paste and a few other seasonings). All these wrapped up together on a piece of lettuce, rolled up into a bite size pouch and in goes into your mouth. You'll be so satisfied with all the medley of flavors bursting in your mouth and simply be in Food Heaven...YUM!

This Scallion Side Salad recipe is super easy to make! I added a twist by adding fresh cabbage which makes this salad super refreshing and filling. With less sesame oil, it can be served as a simple salad to enjoy alone (add protein of your choice), as a side salad served with non-Korean food or with a seaweed & rice wrap. Now, with a generous amount of sesame oil, it will become a mouth watering and creamy salad that perfectly compliments the yumminess of Korean BBQ.

(Serving Size: 2 - 3 Adults, if served as a side salad)

- 2 cups finely julienned cabbage

- 4 scallions/green onions bias-cut strips (including the white part)

- 4 sweet peppers bias-cut rings (substitution options: Serrano or Shisito peppers)

- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil, if served as a side salad for Korean BBQ & Lettuce Wrap. (IF served as a salad with non-Korean food, add 1/2 Tbsp of sesame oil)

- 1 Tbsp Brown Rice Vinegar

- 1 Tsp Toasted Sesame Seeds w/ Salt

- 1/2 Tsp GoChuGaru (Korean Red Pepper Flakes)

- 1/4 Tsp Garlic Powder

- 3/4 Tsp Salt

To Make The Scallion Salad, Rice and Seaweed Wrap:

Jayone Seaweed, Roasted and Lightly Salted, 24 Count

In a large mixing bowl, add the cabbage, scallions and sweet peppers. Then add all the ingredients and mix gently using your hands. Have a sample taste and adjust the saltiness accordingly. You can prepare this salad 30 minutes before serving (store in the refrigerator).

If you are having this salad with Korean BBQ, make sure to add 1 TBSP of sesame oil.

If you are having this salad as your main entree or as a side salad with non-Korean food, only add 1/2 TBSP of sesame oil.

As shown in the video, one of my other favorite way to enjoy this side salad (other than as a Korean BBQ lettuce wrap), is with Korean rice and a sliver of avocado on toasted Korean seaweed. It is a simple and a satisfying way to make yourself an easy-peasy seaweed hand-roll at home.

Now, if you are planning on having this salad as a main entree, I would add grilled shrimp or fish and squeeze fresh lemon juice on top with a sprinkle of Italian parsley. OR for a heavier protein topping, I would add thinly sliced beef steak or chicken breast with a sprinkle of feta or goat cheese crumble and some Italian parsley.
