Soju Cocktail Recipe w/ Persimmon | Perfect Holiday Cocktail Recipe | 소주 칵테일 - Modern Pepper #42

It is that time of the year when cocktails are flowing, turning everyone into revelers...:-) This soju cocktail made with persimmons is a perfect holiday cocktail recipe! It is festive looking with gorgeous orange color. And the natural sweet juices of the persimmons makes this soju cocktail oh-so-delightful. And guess what??? Soju is far less in alcohol content (15%) compared to Vodka, Gin, and other distilled spirits, but it still does the trick and will leave you feeling "good and happy." Soju is typically enjoyed neat, but because of the smooth and clean after taste, it is great for making cocktails.

US legal drinking age is 21 years old. Please drink responsibly.

Up In A Martini Glass:

Chill your martini glass with ice and water. Set aside while you prepare the rest of the ingredients. Alternatively, you can store your martini glass in the freezer for about 10 minutes.

Slice up the soft/ripe persimmon. In a cocktail shaker cup, add the sliced persimmons and use a muddler to mash up the persimmons. (For a subtle taste of the persimmon, use half.) Pour the soju and Cointreau in the shaker. Tap to secure the 2nd shaker, as shown in the video. Shake well for about 15 minutes. Tap the rim of the larger shaker against your counter to release the pressure, as shown in the video. Twist the lemon zest over the shaker and drop it in there. Add 4 to 6 mint leaves. Using the muddler, gently bruise the mint leaves and lemon zest strip. Tap to secure the 2nd shaker and shake well for 5 minutes. Taste it using a straw. Adjust the level of sweetness to your liking by adding more Cointreau.

Discard the ice and water in the martini glass. Using the 2nd lemon zest strip, twist it over the martini glass to release the oils directly into the interior of the glass. Then take the lemon zest and go around the rim of the glass, and the stem, as shown in the video. This is to create a subtle lemon fragrance to your cocktail. Place the cocktail strainer over the shaker, and holding the conical strainer over the martini glass, slowly pour the liquid over the conical strainer. Use a cocktail spoon to move the liquid around the conical strainer to fully drain all the liquid into the martini glass.

Cut a thick slice (just thick enough so it will not flop over the martini glass) of the firm persimmon and make a short cut on one side of the persimmon slice. Place the persimmon on the rim of the martini glass by letting it slip on the cut. Take a small budding piece of the fresh mint and gently place the root end of where the cut starts on the sliced persimmon, as shown in the video. Your Soju Persimmon Cocktail is ready...YUM!

Bubbly In An Old-Fashioned Glass:

Follow the steps above, except use a heavy base Old-Fashioned glass. After you pour the liquid through the strainer into the glass, add a large ice cube. Then, top it off with some club soda and stir one or twice with a cocktail spoon. Add slice of the firm persimmon and garnish with a small budding fresh mint.
